A wind warning has now been issued for south Niagara, as a Special Weather Statement continues for the entire Niagara region warning of strong winds tomorrow.
Environment Canada saying southwest winds will reach 90 to 100 km/h Wednesday afternoon and persist into the evening in Niagara's south.
The strongest wind gusts will be along exposed areas of the Lake Erie shoreline.
Winds will ease Wednesday night.
For the rest of the region, winds will range between 70 and 80 km/hr tomorrow afternoon into the evening.
These strong winds are the result of a low pressure system moving over Lake Huron and Georgian Bay late Wednesday.
Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage.
Meantime the NPCA issuing a Flood Watch saying water levels are expected to increase on Lake Erie by approximately 1.5m and waves will reach 2m.
If the predicted water levels are reached flooding of low-lying areas is expected.
Shoreline damage is also anticipated with the significant wave heights forecasted.
This event is expected to be similar in magnitude to the event that occurred recently on Halloween night.
That storm sparked a power outage to the Port Colborne and Fort Erie area as high winds whipped across south Niagara.
The winds also shifted the scow in Niagara Falls after over 100 years of staying put in the water above the falls.
Residents living along Lake Erie should pay close attention to water levels and waves in their area and are urged to use caution and stay away from the shoreline of Lake Erie during this event.
