A woman has been arrested and charged with arson following a series of car fires in St. Catharines.
At 4am this morning in the area of Lake and Beech Street two officers saw something burning under a parked car and a person walking away.
Officers had been patrolling the area as there have been a number of car fires there in recent months.
As a result, 55 year old Janet Margaret MacLean is charged with 5 counts of attempt to commit arson and two counts of arson damage to property.
These charges relate to 7 different car fire incidents within the city between May 27th and July 10th.
CKTB first reported on these car fires back in early June when a post on Facebook, that has been shared more than 300 times, showed one of the tinder boxes used to start the fires.
The investigation is on-going, so anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111 extension 9073.
ATTENTION This is the latest victim of the arsonist that is operating in the Haig Bowl area. I have had just about enough of this, so I think its time that the Neighborhood’s in this area took some action. I want to start a Neighbourhood Watch program, and I need some help doing pic.twitter.com/vq2pd7bQoN
