An appeal of a ruling by a deputy judge in Welland will be heard next month, in a case being criticized by those who stand up for the rights of victims of sexual assault.
The Hamilton Spectator reporting the deputy judge recently ordered a woman to pay nearly $24,000 to the man she had accused of sexually assaulting her.
The judgement came after the case against the woman's former boyfriend was dismissed in 2011.
The ex boyfriend then sued for damages.
Advocates for victims of sexual assault say the ruling feeds into the stereotype of the scorned woman who accuses an ex of rape to get revenge.
The woman who represented herself in court, has now hired a lawyer who is appealing the judgement.
