The Town of Fort Erie and YMCA of Niagara have come to an agreement to transfer ownership of the EJ Freeland Centre.
In June the Town of Fort Erie offered to buy the building and it's contents for $1 and keep services running with the help of the Boys and girls Club Niagara.
The YMCA of Niagara announcing today that they are prepared to move forward with the deal to hand over the building to the Town, under the following conditions.
The building will be handed over "as is", and the Town is also restricted from selling the building or land without the approval of the YMCA.
A major point of emphasis throughout the negotiation has been to prevent a disruption of services for YMCA members and Fort Erie residents.
The transfer is to happen no sooner than December 2nd, 2019.
CEO of YMCA Niagara Kyle Barber saying "Through our community consultation process, we heard clearly that the preservation of the EJ Freeland Centre as a community hub for health, fitness and swimming is vital to local residents" and added "we look forward in good faith to developing the plan for this transition with Town of Fort Erie over the coming weeks”.
