The hands of the Doomsday Clock have moved even closer to midnight.
The clock symbolizes how close mankind is to total destruction with midnight representing the end of the world.
Every year, officials with the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists set the 'time' based on several factors including the threat of nuclear war and climate change.
This morning, representatives moved the hands of the clock forward 20 seconds to sit at 100 seconds to midnight.
President & CEO Rachel Bronson called the current environment 'profoundly unstable' saying, "Both the nuclear and climate conditions are worsening and we note over the last two years we have seen influential leaders denigrate and discard the most effective methods for addressing complex threats, international agreements with strong verification regimes, in favour of their own narrow interests and domestic political gain."
This is the closest the clock has ever been to midnight.
