A Buffalo man owes his life to three motorists who pulled him from a burning wreck on the QEW near Fort Erie.
It happened Saturday morning around 9:00 a.m. near Gilmore Road.
OPP say the driver lost control of his vehicle and it rolled over several times before it caught fire.
Two truck drivers on the Toronto-bound QEW saw the crash happen, stopped, jumped out of their vehicles and began to put out the blaze.
One of the drivers, Darren Martin of St. Catharines says he needed four extinguishers but still wasn’t able to fully put out the fire.
As the fire was spreading, another motorist joined the rescue effort and struggled to pull the driver from his vehicle who was wedged behind the steering wheel.
Martin says the driver pleaded to be pulled out.
Within seconds of getting him out, the SUV burst into flames
OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt says the driver has been charged with careless driving. He is in stable condition at a Niagara hospital.
