Over the summer, Niagara Council will be looking at next steps to expand Go Train Service in the region.
Last night, Committee of the Whole received a report looking at what has been done so far in terms of Go implementation and what still needs to be done.
Niagara's Go Implementation Office Director Matt Robinson says ultimately they want to stations in Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Grimsby, and Lincoln.
"Our approach has always been a four station site approach with Metrolinx. And really what staff are going to bring forward in August to council for their consideration is how to utilize the investment that we've set aside across those four sites to really transform those Go Station areas."
He points out it is important to build ridership over time.
"This plan has always been about incrementalism. It hasn't been about sink all the money, build everything, and the train will come. This is about the evolution of the station and of the service."
In August, regional council will be getting a report looking at how to spend the $40 million set aside for the Go Train in Niagara.
The first daily Go Trains began travelling between Niagara Falls and Toronto's Union Station in January. Right now there are only two trains a day - one en route to Toronto at 5:19 a.m. and a return trip at 5:15 p.m.
