Don't pack away the longjohns quite yet.
Though today feels pretty balmy compared to the harsh winter weather we saw at the end of last year, another freeze is coming tonight.
Doug Gillham with the Weather Network says the rapid series of ups and downs in temperature is not unexpected.
"You go back and look at years in history, especially years that have a La Nina pattern like we have this year, and they are notorious for changeable patterns. And that's one of the features of our winter forecast, looking back at history, was that we would have periods of profound winter weather and then have high impact periods of non-winter weather...Now the way this particular thaw is working out, it's not actually an extended period of mild weather, it's an extended period with several thaws coming. We have this freeze thaw cycle that we're going to repeat for the next 10 days."
But once that's over, Gillham says we'll plunge back down into some frigid temperatures.
"We're going to lock back into a pattern that's going to resemble where we were between Christmas and early January and it will be a persistent pattern. So winter is by no means over. Anyone who is not a fan of winter weather, certainly enjoy the milder weather like today."
